"Awen yn codi o'r cudd, yn cydio'r cwbl"
- Waldo Williams
(Awen arising from hiding, everything binding)

Romanesque

St George's Basilica, Prague

They do not point, these arches,
But bend in a low arc around silence.
Is it that they have nothing
To point at, existing only to let
What light there is suffuse their stonework
And transmit from somewhere else what -
In darkness - is radiantly glimpsed?
Or is it that they frame

That which is beyond them,
The unlit chambers where mystery
Lingers suggestively in corners, unassuming
And unwilling to aspire?  Lacking
Sharpness, they do not pierce the sky
But reflect, more subtly, heaven’s domain.

  1. What a beautiful church. I'm not Christian, but I do find churches fascinating and peaceful and often like to visit them. And the piece of poetry is a lovely compliment to it.
